Exercise and Learning

Postby Reg » Sat May 05, 2018 8:08 am

So, I had an epiphany the other day that has me wondering why I didn't think of this decades ago. I am multitasking the extremely unpleasant task of exercising with the equally unpleasant task of learning, thereby reducing my time spent on unpleasant tasks by half. Here you see me riding the bike in the gym in my condo building while studying Spanish on my phone.

You gotta be kidding. Exercising isn't unpleasant at all.
I turn on metal / WP music to max volume and work out until the ears explode.
Then, it isn't only a pleasant thing to work out, but I can totally disconnect from this so much hated world for one hour and dwell in a super-hero metal warrior dream for an hour being ecstatic.
How can you even concentrate during running/work out? My CPU load (and brain blood) are completely drawn out for this time and only rudimentary features (look into mirror, drink, going insane on huge butts and nipples) are available to me during these times.
I wouldn't be able to even read one line straight...

You're suspicious now. I heard only women and modern day computers can do multitasking, so that narrows down choices...

Well, I will answer you even though I am quite sure you're not serious.

First, I can only do the cards when I'm on the stationary bike, not the rowing machine or treadmill. I have linked below to the Spanish Word cards that I created.

https://tiny.cards/decks/6w9pKeb9/reg-s-spanish-words-1

https://tiny.cards/decks/7XcZGomr/reg-s-spanish-words-2

When I am doing weight training, both my hands are in use so I can't do the cards BUT if nobody else is in the gym, I play my audio Spanish lessons from Pimsleur. I have linked to a sample of that below.

Well of course, I am serious here.
No wonder, you are not having fun training.
When it is time to pump then it is time to pump in my opinion!
Listening to educational stuff while pumping would be a big downer to me. Ask Corilou, she is an expert. Music has to be excitingly and loud enough to feel the base. I also scream and moan a lot during training, even though I don't do too much weight. I am getting ecstatic with a big smile at the end of every training. Are You moaning spanish conjugations on the bench?
With headphones on, it isn't much of an embarassment because one doesn't note his own moaning too much. Gotta let it all out!
Fitness training is like s-x, this needs your full attention. You shouldn't be in the mood nor able to read a book when "working out" your wife, but instead rather try to make her scream and shiver. People able to do otherwise are suspicious to me.

Don't be one of those Smartphone zombie kids using their stupid devices while on the bench halfheartedly doing finger training instead of pumping hard.
You could listen to Spanish rock music though, or Reggaeton if you're more into the whole latin music stuff.

Do you do fitness training? I am a bit surprised, but it's great if you do.

That's great. I am much older than you are so I have to do it more often to stay healthy. I never did it at your age. Now I am going for 1 hour 5 times a week. It has already helped me hugely. My back was starting to ache and that's gone.

Now I get why You find it to be an annoying task. 5 times a week is rather often in comparation to once a week. While once a week feels like a celebration, 5 times a week possibly feels like an unconvenient duty rather than a pleasure.

Oh, I can relate to this. I hated that.

Might be the age, even though my first though was "ABS" (aryan body superiority). But on second thought you might be right. Aging sucks. Better to die young (with high-powered motocycles).
Or better: die searching for god!

Just back from the gym. God I hate it there. Still, it's better than dying unhealthy and in pain.

I am somewhere between not having enough time to exercise because of the move and forcing myself to so I'm strong for the move. No ashtanga for 2 months now. I should be pretty strong for it. I have good physical endurance. I have bad allergies. Haven't had to mow a lawn in 13 years. I guess otc allergy medications work well.

Your brain is too active to not be bored doing an eliptical.
