The games opened today. I didn't watch any of it. I almost never watch the opening/closing ceremonies. Then again, I also almost never watch any of the events in between them, either. Still, this seems like a particularly uninteresting Olympics, with almost no fuss being made here over it. Even Team Canada isn't getting much press and that's unheard of here. Suits me fine. I wouldn't care at all if they banned the Olympics, too.

The winter games are not as interesting. I expect Canada to do very well. They might win most golds. Pretty good at everything.

I guess no nhl players in Olympics. Not sure who that favors, but I couldn't name 5 nhl players right now.

I was all excited when Vancouver got the Olympics, and then I was really excited when we won the most golds. Now, 8 years later, nobody outside Vancouver even remembers that we hosted it, and I'd say two thirds of those who live here don't remember it either. It was a fun but totally forgotten party. Waste of time, really.

How long do you think this guy will keep his job?

Fox news exec John Moody just blasted USA olympic athletes for being gay and black. Gays actually make up 1.3% of the team. My guess is that is lower than normal.

“unless it’s changed overnight, the motto of the Olympics, since 1894, has been ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger. It appears the U.S. Olympic Committee would like to change that to ‘Darker, Gayer, Different.’ If your goal is to win medals. That won’t work.”

PS.

None of the gays are black. Could you imagine?

PPS
13 of the 230 athletes are black.

The difference this time is that the gays are out. Before they were nicely closeted so as not to offend anyone. Blacks in winter sports has never been a real thing. It's generally a novelty like the Jamaican bobsled team.

So far USA has dominated snowboarding, Norway is dominating skiing, Netherlands is dominating long track speed skating, South Korea is dominating short track speed skating, Germany is dominating luge, Canada is dominating figure skating. What a boring Olympics. Nothing new. Chloe Kim has been the best part so far. She seems likable and has probably had the best performance so far.

Italy just won short track. Good. An upset.

You're watching way closer than I am. Funny, 8 years ago I cared a lot about the Winter Olympics because it was here in Vancouver. Now I couldn't care less about any event, even hockey. It's mostly me, I admit, but it does seem that the Olympics has lost some magic in recent years.

No winter sport above is interesting me, therefore I don´t care for Germany dominating luge. The only winter sport I really care for is Biathlon due to the shooting, which makes it extremely exciting as it can change everything within a second. And despite I haven´t watched it (as I haven´t watched any Olympia event), I was very happy hearing about Laura Dahlmeier winning her two gold medals (yet, as the chances are high that more will follow) and Arnd Peiffer surprisingly winning Olympia Gold and Benedikt Doll winning Bronze. Dahlmeier is amazing in her sport as it´s rare a biathlete is excellent in both running as well as shooting. And she´s still soooo young. Hopefully she won´t hang her sport up on a nail as early as Magdalena Neuner (as much as I respect Neuner for ending it at the peak; nearly no one would be strong enough to do what she did).

When I heard she likes being in the mountains, I thought she likes hiking there. But she does climbing. Yikes.

Servus,
Gunda

I'm actually getting interested in reverse. This is the 7th Olympics since BBAD came into existence. I don't think I can remember ever seeing the news board totally clear of the Olympics during the time it was actually taking place. It's like it's not even happening.
